Hi I’m James

I’m a fully certified Feldenkrais Practitioner and Pilates Instructor based in Norwich, UK. I’ve been helping people improve their movement and wellbeing since 2008, both in the UK and internationally. I work with adults experiencing persistent back pain, neurological challenges, scoliosis, injuries, chronic fatigue, and recovery from surgery, as well as people living with Parkinson’s and those recovering from strokes. I also work with athletes, musicians, dancers, and models.

Regardless of their movement background or level of fitness, I find that my students often share similar goals: to feel happier in their bodies and move more efficiently in the things they love to do.

What is Feldenkrais?
The Feldenkrais Method is a gentle, movement-based approach to improving how you move, feel, and sense yourself.

Rather than pushing, stretching, or strengthening, it focuses on learning — helping you become more aware of your movement habits and discover easier, more efficient ways of moving.

Through slow, guided explorations, you develop a clearer sense of how your body is organised, so that everyday actions begin to feel lighter, more comfortable, and more connected.

What is Pilates?
Pilates is a method for learning how to move your body with greater power, organisation, efficiency, and awareness.

It uses a beautifully curated series of movement patterns in all directions, helping you develop coordination, control, and endurance through the spine.

Rather than creating strength through effort or compression, Pilates encourages power with length — an organised, responsive way of moving that makes everyday actions feel smoother, lighter, and more efficient.

Has your movement changed over time?

Are pain, stiffness, or tension affecting your daily life?

Perhaps you’re recovering from injury or surgery, or living with a long-term health condition?

Would you like to move with greater ease, confidence, and comfort?

What would it feel like to do the things you love with less effort and more freedom?

Key Benefits of Pilates and the Feldenkrais Method®

Pilates and the Feldenkrais Method offer different but complementary ways to improve how you move, feel, and function. Whether you’re looking to reduce pain, recover from injury, improve mobility, or simply feel more comfortable in your body, both approaches can help you move through life with more ease and confidence.

Improved Mobility

Move with more ease, flexibility, and freedom. Both Pilates and Feldenkrais help improve how your body is organised in movement, making everyday actions feel smoother, lighter, and less effortful. Rather than forcing flexibility, you learn how to move more efficiently through your whole body.

Pain Reduction

Persistent pain and tension often develop through habits of strain and unnecessary effort. Through gentle movement and increased awareness, Feldenkrais and Pilates can help reduce muscular tension, improve movement patterns, and support a more comfortable, balanced way of moving.

Better Posture & Body Awareness

Develop a clearer sense of how your body moves and functions. Increased awareness can improve posture, coordination, balance, and breathing, helping you feel more connected, stable, and confident in everyday life.

Stress Relief & Nervous System Support

Both methods encourage a calmer, more attentive way of moving. Slowing down and learning to move with less effort can help reduce stress, quiet habitual tension, and create more ease, clarity, and wellbeing.

What would you like to improve or feel differently in yourself?

What activities or movements feel difficult, uncomfortable, or limiting?

How would you like to move, feel, or function in the future?

I usually recommend beginning with a 1:1 session. Together, we explore how you currently move, what is already working well, and where there may be unnecessary effort, tension, or gaps in awareness.

Rather than forcing change, the lessons are designed to help you discover easier, more efficient ways of moving — supporting pain reduction, improved mobility, better coordination, and a calmer, more connected sense of yourself.

Having clear goals helps us tailor the sessions to your individual needs and support meaningful, lasting change over time.

1:1 sessions take place at Clarence House, 6 Clarence Road, Norwich, NR1 1HH. Paid Parking available.

Individual sessions are £70 for a 60-minute lesson.

If you would like to discuss your needs or find out whether this approach is right for you, please email me to arrange a free 15-minute telephone consultation.

In my students words...

  • A woman lying on her side on a massage table, receiving a feldenkrais lesson from a smiling man in a beige shirt, in a room with natural light coming through a window.

"I had tried various forms of alternative help for my back.. After what seemed a fairly short time my lower back problem became much better. His way of working is so much less punishing than workouts or some forms of physio – in fact not punishing at all" - John Pryce-Jones (MD Northern Ballet)

  • A person giving a feldenkrais lesson to a client, moving their leg while the client lies on a table.

"As a teacher he is genuinely passionate about making the classes engaging and fun as well as making use of creative imagery to enhance your bodily awareness. He is furthermore truly considerate and caring towards his students and makes sure to give you relevant individual feedback. I’d highly recommend him as a customer and as a colleague." - Maria Jardardottir

  • A woman lying on her back on a massage table with a foam roller under her legs; a man applying pressure to her thigh, performing a Feldenkrais treatment session in a room with large windows.

"From the very first time of meeting, James put me at ease. He has an amazing insight in how you are physically and emotionally. Within a week I had much more movement in my whole body." - Linda Bailey

  • A woman lying on her side on a massage table, receiving feldenkrais functional integration from a man kneeling beside her, gently holding her face with one hand in a bright room with large windows and curtains.

"I work as a gardener and often suffer from back pains joint pains and other occupational strains, I found that after doing this class with James not only did those pains go away but I felt stronger , happier and more confident with my movements and my body than I ever have." - Alan Ndzinga

  • A woman lying on her back on a massage table, with a therapist performing a feldenkrais lesson with her shoulders and neck in a bright room with beige curtains.

“The improvement in my mobility has been unbelievable. After the first class I came out pain free with a feeling of overall ‘lightness’ in my muscles and joints. I had the best nights’ sleep I’d had in a very long time. James is a very warm and welcoming person.” – Carol Havercroft

  • A man providing a feldenkrais lesson with a woman lying on a massage table.

"I felt such a sense of well-being that I continued to attend his classes for three and a half years. His instructions made transitions between movements seem seamless!” – Rosemary Graham

  • A man with short hair wearing a light beige shirt, smiling, while holding a woman's shoulder blade during a feldenkrais therapy session.

"...He just has the ‘magic touch’ to make people feel at home in their bodies, even if they have little or no previous experience of similar fitness or movement activities. He has an incredible ability to remember almost everyone’s individual bodily needs in his classes. I could not recommend him highly enough!” – Hannah Lewis
